Wahoo are the trophy nobody plans for and everybody remembers. September through November is peak, when warm fall water holds fish on the high spots; July, August and December are good. Late winter into spring is genuinely slow, if you’re here in March, spend your day on striped marlin instead. A wahoo hits at full speed, around 60 mph, and the reel goes from quiet to screaming in half a second; first runs of 100+ yards are normal, and then come the violent direction changes that keep you guessing to the boat.
